7.30pm, that's the time I reached the Bukit Jalil Stadium's carpark. Now what are we there for? It's the 988's A*Party held in celebrating 988's birthday.
The first thing that caught my attention was the layout of the whole event. Maybe the idea behind it was not to draw the attention of the crowd away from the stage but IMHO, the surrounding area around the stage is quite.... bare. Apart from the Digi's (they have 3 booths!) and 988's booth, there's nothing else around the place. Oh, there's some stalls about 500meters away and majority of them sold burgers so that's nothing to shout about.
The show got under way despite the slight drizzle around 8pm with songs from the Project SuperStars' performers and performance by the group and the Deejays of 988 follows straight after. From then on, the night roll on with performance after performance by local artistes as well as international ones.
I don't really remember much of the performance and who performed them other than Victor Wong. Yeah I know some would say how could I not know who performed and all. Well, I don't cause I'm not a big follower of chinese music so even if I like the song I hear, I wouldn't know the title of the song and the artist singing it. The Deejays also did their part between performances by going on stage to talk about the whole event, the artist performing next and so forth. And some of these deejays even performed some dance number and sang too. So kudos to them.
Now, some stuff I didn't like about the event apart from what I mentioned earlier. The first thing is, the sound system. Maybe it was done on purpose but to me, the sound system was horrible, too much bass and nothing else. At some songs, you can't even hear the vocals as the loudest sound that reaches the ear is the bass thumping away. That can definitely be improved. The other thing I felt can be fixed is the layout of the crowd area. They have 3 types of tickets, the standard ones, the VIPs and the VVIPs. The VVIP's seating is way too far away from the stage, I feel that they should place the VVIPs nearer to the stage, maybe within a canopy. You know, as VVIPs, I'm sure one of the thing they'd like to do is mingle with the Deejays and artistes while watching the performance. That'll definitely boost the PR of the whole thing. Take a look at the pictures and you can guess how far that is away from the stage. The VIP area are for the "hardcore" fans and it was quite well placed with all the screaming fans jumping up and down and all that but what's the use of the standard tickets that was given away when there doesn't seem to be any crowd control outside of the VIP and VVIP area?
We left the place at 10pm but the show hasn't ended yet. So I can't really comment much on the later performances. In the 2 1/2 hours I was there, the experience was good, it could be better. The crowd that shows up was very hyper as they practically screams and cheers at anyone who stepped on stage. Anyway, that's about all I could talk about.
